The Campylobacter spp. rods, which are widespread in nature, detected in animal products, and contaminated drinking water are currently one of the most common etiologic agents of gastrointestinal disorders in humans, that in an acute stage are known as campylobacteriosis. The article describes Campylobacter spp., the virulence factors of these bacteria, which determine their pathogenicity and presents current epidemiological data on campylobacteriosis and methods to prevent this foodborne ilness.
