Abstract

The article contains a survey of the recent papers on the fibrinolytic inhibitors which regulate the process of plasminogen activation–PAI-1 and PAI-2. Both of them belong to serine protease inhibitors family and are specific for tPA as well as uPA, forming stable complexes in molar ratio 1:1 with them. PAI-1, secreted mainly by endothelial cells and platelets, is the main plasmic inhibitor of plasminogen activation. PAI-2, originated essentially from placenta, appears in blood during pregnancy.
